Text & Writing
Writing utilities for students, marketers and anyone who has ever been given a word limit. Count words against an assignment target, fix the capitalisation on a headline, strip messy formatting out of pasted text, or find and replace across a long document.
These are the utilities that turn a piece of text into a different piece of text, or tell you something about it. Individually small, collectively the sort of thing you end up needing several times a week.
For writing, the word counter gives counts, reading time and the density figures that matter for a brief, and the readability checker scores the result and explains which specific sentences are dragging it down. The text to speech reader is the most underused tool in this group: reading a draft aloud is one of the most effective proofreading techniques there is, because the ear catches repeated words, missing small words and sentences that run out of breath, all of which the eye reads straight past.
For cleaning up text, the text cleaner strips the invisible characters, smart quotes and stray whitespace that break things downstream, and find and replace supports regular expressions with a live preview of what will change. The case converter handles the naming conventions, and the slug generator produces URL-safe strings with proper handling of accented characters.
For comparison and puzzles, the text compare tool shows a line-by-line diff of two versions, and the anagram solver finds every word hiding in a set of letters. That last one uses a deliberately curated dictionary of common English rather than a large public word list, because the standard one is a 1913 reference full of obsolete headwords that returns pages of words nobody recognises while missing ordinary plurals.
"Everything here runs locally. Text you paste is never uploaded, which matters more for this category than most, since the things people most want to clean up or compare are often the things they least want on someone else's server."
